Outrage as Badger Cull to Comes to Derbyshire

7 Sep 2020

Erewash Liberal Democrats reacted in dismay to the news that the Badger cull will be coming to Derbyshire. The Government has announced it will capture and kill badgers in Derbyshire in an attempt to control Bovine TB. The move comes despite the government's promise just six months ago to support badger vaccination and move away from shooting this protected species and is contrary to the governments own scientific advice which warns that culling badgers is not an effective means of controlling Bovine TB. Most cattle are not infected by badgers but by other cattle.

Parliamentary spokesperson James Archer had this to say: "Derbyshire Wildlife Trust have engaged in a very successful programme of vaccinating Badgers in Derbyshire to control Bovine TB. It is disappointing to see this work thrown away by a government that is yet again proving it cannot live up to its own promises."
