Candidate Announcement - Robert Mee for Breadsall and West Hallam
Councillor Robert Mee is a local man, having lived in West Hallam for 37 years (and before that he was only from Heanor!). He is a retired Police Inspector, having served in various postings around Derbyshire and on secondment to the Home Office. He is passionate about local history, a subject in which he now holds an M.A. He gives regular talks (and has even mastered doing them on Zoom!), And he's written a couple of books on Heanor's history. He also loves the open countryside, and is keen walker and geocacher. But Robert also holds strong views on local democracy and on environmental issues, and it is these which brought him into
local politics.
"I think we've got a lousy system of politics. The winner takes all, even if they have only won by one vote. And once they have won, they never listen to anybody else. I'm prepared to work with any other party, as my voting record over the last two years on the borough council shows - I am not tied to the one-sided dogma of the Conservatives or Labour. Communities should be given the legal right to be involved in the decisions which affect them, not to have their requests constantly turned down. And ALL decisions taken by our councils should have the Climate Emergency and environmental protection at the forefront."
